Hamilton the Comeback Kid
The influential Financial Times of London now ranks Hamilton as one of the 10 large cities in North America: seven in terms of infrastructure and nine in terms of investment. A Calgary-based Real Estate Investment Network (REIN) recently cited Hamilton as the third largest city in Canada for investment after Calgary and Edmonton, and the US based Site Selection magazine positions Hamilton as one of the top five best places to invest in Canada.
Over the last few years creative districts have sprung up in Hamilton’s Hess Village and James Street North, with its galleries and bistros. This has also attracted a creative class of artists, filmmakers, advertising types and others to the city. The revival of downtown Hamilton– the hub of the lower city has been critical to the success of Hamilton. It’s been noticed that downtown Hamilton has good bones and downtown is a huge asset to the city. From the renovation of the historic Lister Block, to the renovation of the 1980’s-era Sheraton Hotel and newer hotel additions like the Staybridge Suites and Homewood Suites, Hamilton’s facelift projects are critical to downtown’s renewal.
