CIPS Qualifier Slam

January 28, 2018

Presented By: Hamilton Youth Poets

The Hamilton Youth Poets is an organization dedicated to the art of spoken word and making literacy accessible to everyone. We host monthly slams where spoken-word poets of all ages get together to compete. This month HYP is sending a representative to the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Championship taking place in Vancouver!!! This will be a very different slam from our usual two round of three minute poems, In honour of CIPS we will be doing our first 3 round slam! First round: The poets will compete with a 4-minute poem. Second round: The poets will compete with a 1-minute poem. Third round: The poets will compete with a 2-minute poem.
Since this is an Individual qualifier…no team piece will be allowed. We are also featuring Jon Hedderwick this month. Jon is a poet, activist, film producer, organizer and educator of mixed Ashkenazi Jewish and Scottish ancestry. He lives as a settler on the land of the Mississauga Anishinabek in Nogojiwanong – Peterborough, Ontario where he performs, organizes and mentors emerging poets with the Peterborough Poetry Slam Collective.
